Senator Pérez partners with Assemblymember Harabedian to protect historic homes

SACRAMENTOSenator Sasha Renée Pérez (D-Pasadena) issued the following statement on the State Senate passing AB 2576 (Harabedian):

“Today, the Senate unanimously passed legislation that will protect local, state and federally designated historic sites.

“AB 2576 by Assemblymember John Harabedian (D-Pasadena) would refine legislation passed last year that established statewide zoning standards intended to facilitate higher-density multifamily housing development near major public transit stops. But the law was unclear on whether local and state historic landmark districts would be protected. Today’s legislation would clarify and extend the protections to additional historic resources.

“This is especially important for Pasadena where preservation and history are core parts of our civic identity.

“I am honored to be a Principal coauthor of this bill, present it to my Senate colleagues, and vote to pass it today. This is an example of responsive government that listens to local stakeholders and honors a commitment to revisit a policy to make it more suitable and stronger. I want to thank Assemblymember Harabedian for authoring this vital legislation.”
