Organizational Overview:

The mission of the Bergen County Office of Child Development is to enhance the capacity of families to meet the developmental and health related needs of children from birth to age 21 who have delays or disabilities by providing education, support, and resources.  Through the Early Intervention and Case Management programs, the Office provides critical support to meet the needs of Bergen County’s families. Families from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds are key partners in the process of decision making at every level of the design, implementation, and evaluation of their child’s care. This partnership is a foundation and paramount to the successful workings of the Office of Child Development.

Job Description:           

This employment opportunity is to serve as Service Coordinator for the New Jersey Early Intervention System (NJEIS).  The NJEIS is designed to address a problem or delay in development as early as possible, for infants and toddlers up to age three. Under direct supervision performs office and field work required in providing continuing preventive and rehabilitative social services to clients and their families; aiding individuals/families having problems which adversely affect their family unit or personal lives: does other related duties as required. Service Coordinators work closely with families, as well as public and private agencies, to address the needs of children and their families who meet the eligibility criteria established by the State.  This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to work with children with special needs and their families, and gain experience working with diverse families and medical/social service partner agencies. 

Job Responsibilities:          

  • Gather information from clients to identify problems and solutions and determine their eligibility for social services.
  • Interface directly with families both in person and via telehealth
  • Refer clients to other service units to meet specific needs.
  • Create Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) with the Early Intervention Team, documenting expected outcomes and strategies
  • Coordinate client services based on recommendations in the IFSP, by working with multiple agencies and school districts.
  • Follow-up with clients and/or service providers to evaluate client’s progress and determine whether changes to the service plan are required.
  • Follow timelines and expectations of the Individuals with Disabilities Act and the New Jersey Administrative Code
  • Maintain a caseload, including records and files in compliance with agency, county and state requirements
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and evaluations processes
  • Organize assigned work and develop effective work methods
  • Prepares reports and other documents as required.

Schedule:   

  • Full-Time (40 hours/week).
  • Weekends and evenings as required

Education Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Outlook and Excel programs.
  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey to perform essential duties of the position.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Salary:  $51,000 per annum, commensurate with education
